Eat properly and exercise. Is my mind up to it?
It is extremely annoying I am gaining weight and I am not eating anything I shouldn’t be eating. Yes, I have strayed once or twice in the past few weeks, but nowhere near justifying this weight gain. I haven’t gone up any clothing sizes and I am still using XXL shirts having come down from 4XL. My trouser size has decreased from a 61 inch to a 51 inch and I am still wearing a belt. I wear a 44-go figure.
I have been doing a bit of weight training, but I am sure this has nothing to do with the weight gain. I have lost no weight in about six months and a plateau this long is ridiculous.
Last week, I went for the first of two Covid vaccines, and my blood pressure taken beforehand. This gave me quite a shock-176/116. According to “Dr.” Google, this is Hypertension 3 territory. Where this level comes from, I do not know. I feel 100%. This needs to change. Exercise and diet are within my control and I will start there.
I bought a home blood pressure monitor and I will check my blood pressure twice a day. I am also going to up my exercise regime to include some indoor cycling. Something else added to this whole exercise thing is a heart rate monitor.
Someone introduced me to Zwift, and it is my new favourite exercise companion. Our internet connection here is a little erratic, but once connected, things run smoothly. I did not know cycling was such an expensive sport.
I have one of those scales that supposedly measures many things alongside my weight, but I don’t really believe these measurements are that scientific or accurate. I will use these values as a guide to measure my progress. As long as the muscle increases and the fat decreases, we are moving in the right direction.
The scale gave me the following readings today.
Muscle 38.6%
Fat 25.4%
Weight 124.7kg
Away we go for the umpteenth time.
