Is a cheat day a good option while dieting?
Can you have cheat days on a diet?
Yes, if you want to be unsuccessful.
The more important question is what you put forward as justification?
There is only one thing which makes you cheat on a diet, and that is internal influences.
There are no external influences which force you to have a cheat day or go on a food binge.
Cheating or bingeing comes from you and your interpretation of events in your life.
Someone calls you fat, and your automatic response is to dig into that packet of crisps. Why? Because eating has always been a response to negativity in your life.
One of the strangest excuses I’ve heard for a cheat day is it boosts your metabolism on subsequent days. If it does this, the difference will be negligible. Rather ask yourself how much longer will you need to lose the weight you may have gained on your binge-day?
Another reason is the lack of willpower.
Does willpower exist, or is this an excuse for our continual acceptance of destructive habits?
If you eat properly, and healthy, then willpower isn’t an excuse you will ever need to use.
This is something I am learning as I continue along my weight loss journey. Using lack of willpower has always been my excuse. Funnily enough, I have been successful in other areas of my life and willpower only affects my weight. Why?
It is more a question of are you wanting to change or not.
Let us look at this..
If I do something daily, eventually over time, it becomes a habit and I don’t even think about doing it any longer. Think about getting dressed or brushing your teeth.
So why can’t we do the same with the food we eat?
In my case, cooking for one has always been easier to do by walking into a fast-food restaurant and buying something. Now that I have forced myself to cook at home while on a diet, the healthier foods taste just as good and even better than the rubbish I was putting into my mouth. And cooking even relaxes me.
So, benefiting all around.
