3 Important lessons I learned from eating less
We learn from all things we experience, and eating as I should and not all day every day changed my life. Chewing on something all day kept my mind on food.
I learned three things while eating less.
I don’t need as much food as I was consuming.
It was an eye-opening experience to see the difference between how much I was eating and how much I actually needed to eat. Now, I even have days where l have a single meal and hunger isn’t noticeable during the day. This shows how we condition our bodies to eat just for the sake of doing so. Not sure if this “three meals a day” mantra still holds true nowadays. I don’t think so.
I overindulge every so often, but I am not following a “starvation” diet to lose weight. Funnily enough, this overindulgence makes my stomach argue with me and ask me to respect it. I will do so.
It is so amazing I can now eat possibly 60% less, if not more, than my previous daily food intake and still feel energised to tackle the day.
Water is my best friend.
Any time there is a message from my stomach to fill up a gap, and it is not my scheduled meal time, a glass of water or two comes to the rescue.
How many times have I had water, and the supposed hunger pang miraculously vanishes?
Drink two to three litres of water per day and you’ll see how less frequently you feel hungry.
Healthy meals are just as tasty as junk food.
If you told me this a few months ago, I would have laughed at you. Now I am kicking myself for not getting on the healthy food kick a long time ago. I am loving what I can do with the most basic of ingredients, especially as I am now eating one meal per day.
I have become a master at salad and chicken breast concoctions. And they all taste great. There are foods and spices I stayed away from for years because I thought I wouldn’t like them. It is amazing how you can disguise the flavour of things without having to use sugar or sauces.
Salt, black pepper and garlic are my best friends in the kitchen.
There are many other lessons learned from eating less, but these have had the biggest impact on my relationship with food.
Have you noticed other changes in your relationship with food after sticking to a diet for a while?
