This is why I stayed away from doctors for decades.
The past month has been a bit of a challenge.
I have received both of my Covid vaccines, but what woke me up to health issues as I get older was my blood pressure. Blood pressure gets measured before and after each vaccine and it was quite a shock to be told I have hypertension.
This forced me to jump onto the internet to find out what hypertension is. Basically, high blood pressure which needs to be controlled.
I am now on medication to bring my blood pressure down to within normal ranges.
Next was finding out that I have a swollen thyroid which isn’t the ideal. Something about a high level of a certain antibody which the doctor said we’ll have a look at again in a few months. I must just be aware of when I struggle to swallow. This is a sign to go back for another consultation. My thyroid is otherwise normally, albeit not optimally..
These two issues don’t seem to be all that serious, but to someone who has spent less than a few hours in hospital or in doctors’ consulting rooms in the past thirty years, this news came as an eye-opener. Especially as I experienced nothing out of the ordinary regarding my health.
I have been dieting and exercising but don’t seem able to lose weight. My old clothes still hang loosely on my body, though. I can see my collar bones, so maybe I am losing fat, not weight.
Lowering my blood pressure should eventually happen as I am dieting, exercising and will look at cutting down my coffee from five cups a day to three. I bought one of those home blood pressure measuring monitors and use it every day when I wake up and after I have exercised.
It is strange how often my blood pressure registers as “normal” about 5 minutes after I finish exercising.
Other than the health hiccup for the moment, all is going well with me.
The difficulty of having a blog on obesity is there is only so much I can write from the perspective of the layperson. I don’t have a team of writers or any followers at the moment, so things run nicely for a few weeks and then suddenly my mind goes blank and I have nothing to write about pertaining to obesity. Research will lead me to subjects to cover.
Maybe I should come at this whole weight loss thing from a different angle. I have written before on a mind-set and lifestyle change. This is the route to go.
I will focus on obesity, but all the subjects I feel have bearing on my journey to beating obesity will become a part of the discussion.
Please join me in the comments for us to create a new way to beat this obesity in the simplest manner without costing us too much.
