Is the obesity epidemic real?
‘The Obesity Epidemic’ is a phrase which seems to be everywhere now. Is it an epidemic or not?
When I hear of an epidemic, an immediate panic grips my mind. I’m thinking I will walk outside my home and contract some disease sweeping through my community at that point in time.
The actual issue is we have never noticed obesity in our communities because it has never interested us.
It is the same as we never notice things, such as a certain model of a vehicle, until we buy that model of the vehicle. Then it seems every second person is driving the car.
Obesity has been around forever, but our diet and sedentary lifestyle has made it much easier to become this way much quicker.
There are a lot of issues which led to my obesity, but the major one was just boredom. I ate because I was alone and had nothing to do.
Obesity isn’t an epidemic. It is a lifestyle choice.
My understanding of ‘epidemic’ is it is an infectious disease within a community at a particular time. Is obesity infectious? Is it contagious? I guess scaremongering is one way to force a narrative on a society.
We are the creators of this ‘epidemic’ if you want to label it. By taking less interest in our own lives and doing the expected, the kilograms just pile on. We eat on the run as we try to keep up with our busy lives. The obvious choice of convenience is fast food. Being single and cooking for one is just too much of an effort. Tonight it is a burger, tomorrow a pizza, and so on. All those additives and sugars makes it taste great, and an addiction to laziness and fast food develops.
And we are getting fatter and fatter at a younger age, which baffles my mind. A child should never be obese if parents did their jobs. A kid eats what parents feed them, and it is just lazy parenting stuffing junk food into a child just for a little peace around the house. At some stage, a diabetes gene may kick in and then we ask why. We still don’t accept our own part in staying obese as we get older.
We feed into this stupidity of blaming fast-food franchises for our obesity because we don’t want to accept responsibility.
Cut out the rubbish from your diet, and you will see an almost immediate change in not just your physical appearance, but your mental outlook.
