What to do when you hit a weight loss plateau.
One of the most demotivating things on a diet is hitting a weight loss plateau, and your body refuses to lose weight for weeks on end.
I am at that point now.
The immediate thought is ‘My body is telling me it has reached optimal weight, so I can stop dieting now.’
Immediate reaction is to go on a food binge and then not check my weight for months and realise I have gained back all the weight I put so much effort into losing.
As I have never been into exercise, I am always looking for the next diet to help lose weight.
Hitting a weight loss plateau should tell me to either cut more calories out of my diet, or start exercising to burn a few additional calories per day.
Having been a couch athlete for thirty years, this sounds like too much effort.
Time to cut the calories again.
I have been following an intermittent fasting plan for almost a month and have lost nine pounds.
Sounds a little too slow for my liking.
I’ve read of people losing over twenty pounds in a month, and this is what I’d like.
If I consider what I have been eating, compared to what I ate previously, I’d have to starve myself to achieve 20 pounds per month. I won’t do that.
I am still having trouble cutting out the bread, and will have to do this. Maybe this can make a difference.
I have an exercise bike, and that is the next logical step. Thinking about getting on a bike and going nowhere is difficult. I suppose any form of exercise now will be beneficial.
Let’s see.
What are the options?
Is a cheat meal an option?
Should I eat more protein?
Do I drink more water?
I’ve discussed cheat days and meals previously, so that is not an option for me.
I am drinking so much more water than I used to; I think a lot of my weight could have something to do with water retention if I consider my food intake.
What I will do?
I have this all wrong.
What I need to concentrate on is not the weight loss but the end-goal which will remain a lifestyle change.
If I can remember this and maintain the patience to achieve this, the weight should come off quickly enough.
