What reasons do I have to continually overeat?
There may be many reasons, but it is unpleasant habits and laziness.
I find I eat much more when I sit and eat in front of the TV.
Maybe distraction leads to more eating during the show and afterwards. I needed to sit in the same place at the same time every day with a meal on a plate to break this habit of eating in front of the TV.
It got to a point where I believe I was looking for food the minute I sat down on the sofa in front of the TV. Sitting down and switching on the TV triggered hunger.
The same goes for driving. I always had a snack of sort in my hand in the car.
Eating all-day-very-day also doesn’t allow my body a chance to digest anything.
My savior – water.
One of the best things that happened to me is realising that many times a glass of water got rid of the hunger. I was thirsty, not hungry. This has now become habit, and I now drink up to 2,5lt of water per day.
Cooking has become a brilliant way to force me to eat less. Living alone forces me to buy less food for the house, and therefore I have less to cook. Quick, healthy meals are my first choice now.
I know there is a lot of info out there on stress-eating, but this hasn’t been an issue with me.
My biggest reason for eating all the time was boredom. Eating got rid of the monotony of doing nothing. My hands were working to put things in my mouth, and my mouth and brain were sending those amazing flavors through my body. I was busy eating.
The more I ate, the bigger my body became, and I guess the more calories it needed to function daily. I am not blaming my obesity on my body, but my lack of self-control. My life became buried in a rut for many years, and I was comfortable there.
As I continue along this intermittent fasting thing, I crave less food and I am losing weight as a bonus.
Other than the actual physical need for food, maybe what I needed was a little self-love.
